Shawntelle and Mike were married at The Chicory, one of our favorite venues in the city! Their eclectic style was well represented with the decor choices throughout the space. And we are in love with her wedding gown!
What was the most memorable part of the wedding planning process?
The most memorable part was shopping for my wedding dress. I went to Lovely Bride in Houston with my mom and sister, so we were able to make a weekend of it. Now, the most fun part was cake tasting!
You had such a unique decor style, where did you draw inspiration from?
I am usually drawn more to a modern look. Full modern can sometimes feel too harsh so I added some romantic elements to soften it. I tried combining them to together and I loved the way it turned out, a romantic twist on a modern style. And of course Pinterest helped.
Why was decor & lighting important for your wedding aesthetic? Decor and lighting were important because we wanted to use both to highlight the amazing characteristics of the venue.
Why did you choose New Orleans & specifically the The Chicory for your big day? Mike and I were both born and raised in New Orleans. If we were going to have our wedding in New Orleans we wanted to have that New Orleans vibe. The Chicory did just that with the exposed brick and gas lanterns. We both loved the venue the first time we saw it.
Did you enjoy working with the Luminous team? Yes! They were so great through the entire process. Always answering questions promptly and communicating with the other vendors, which took a lot of stress off of me.
What is your favorite memory from wedding day?
There were so many great memories, but I would have to say the first look. In a day where you are happily surrounded by people all day, it is the one moment where both of you feel like it is just the two of you and no one else.
Do you remember what you were thinking when you saw the completed reception space for the first time?
Perfection! I could not believe that the picture I had in my head was actually in front of me and looked even better.
What advice would you give to other couples trying to plan their big day?
Try to get a clear vision of what you want. Search every website, pinterest, etc till you figure it out and then stop searching! If you don't then you will want to change everything all the time. Also, do not take planning too seriously, Enjoy it!
What's next for the new Mr. and Mrs?!
